Counseling for OCD
Is OCD overwhelming you?
You’re tired of struggling with the same things, over and over. You don’t want to do the compulsions, but they are the only thing to help the anxiety. Or are they?
Compulsions can look like these, and many more…
Checking
Checking locks, stoves, that you closed a door. Checking to make sure you did/didn’t do anything wrong.
Cleaning/Washing
Cleaning things or surfaces that look clean to others. Washing hands longer, with hot water, and/or numerous times.
Reassurance
Asking others to reassure you. Did I upset you? Do you think I did the wrong thing?
Organizing
Wanting everything to be in just the right place. Books tidy, wall hangings perfectly centered, everything in its place.
Counting
Counting a number of words, items, syllables. Counting something unrelated to the stresser.
Mental Reviewing
Rewinding and reviewing the events of the day, wanting to make sure you didn’t say anything wrong or do something problematic.
Assigning Meaning
This is lucky. This is not. If I do this, something good will happen. If I do that, something bad will happen.
Extra Caution
You double check before doing something. Follow all the rules. Take extra care with your baby, more so that your peers.
Common Subtypes of OCD
Contamination OCD
Postpartum OCD
Harm OCD
Sexual Orientation OCD
Perfectionism OCD
Relationship OCD
Some people know they have OCD and have known as long as they can remember. But many people don’t get the diagnosis for many years. If you’re ready, I offer 2 different types of treatment, both are specifically for OCD. They are as different as can be, but I’ve seen great results with each. If you want to know more about these, check out the blog post I wrote here.
